 the letters used in writing when arranged in ncertain custonmary order compose what is called the alphabet the b english alphabet consists of twenty-six letters or single characters and for want of others ceratin sinple sound are reperesented by two united letters the letter or single characters are a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,,x,y,z the compoubd characters represnting distinct sounds are ch sh there is also a distinct sound represnted by ng as in long and another by s or x as in fusion azure which sound might be reopresented zh the letters are of two kinds vowels and consonats a vowel is a simple articulate sound formed without the help of another letter by opening the mouth in a particular manner and begum and completed with the smae postion  of the organs as a,e,o the letter which represent these sounds arew six a,e,i,o,u but of these characters is used to exprss two or more sounds
